What Happens When We Die?
The human lifespan is finite . . . and short. We are all dying. Yet, how often do we think about it. Most of us don't think about it at all. How much time, effort, money and resources do we commit to avoiding death? Death is the thing that many people fear the most. How would our values change if no one was afraid of death? How would our social priorities change if no one was afraid of death? How would our expenditure of time and resources change if no one was afraid of death? Our fear of death stems from our belief that dying is the "end of us". This requires us to believe that we are our bodies and nothing more. What if we are not our bodies at all? What if our bodies are only a shell, donned temporarily for a specific purpose? What if we don't cease to exist when we die? It is instructive to read the books and stories of near death experiences. Another field of investigation is past life regression. An individual, under hypnosis, can recall previous life experiences. They can even recall going through multiple death experiences and details of the afterlife. Critics try to debunk these reports with all sorts of irrational arguments. Granted, there are some variables in the process that have to be accounted for, and it is possible to generate false memories if the therapist isn't careful. Nevertheless, there are well documented cases where details of former lives, recalled under hypnosis, have been independently verified by historical records and other evidence. In some cultures, this is accepted factual reality. However, to make it personal, and to make it real, one must experience firsthand an experience or expanded perception that goes beyond a physical body reality or a materialist reductionist model of thinking. That is what this book is about. Consider for a moment how your choices in life might change if you were totally confident that you would continue to exist after your physical body expires.
